This afternoon at 6pm, Casa América presents the conversation The Welfare State that Women Need, as part of the America is Woman series. No audience in person, only on its YouTube channel.
Participating in the event will be Leticia Bonifaz, Mexican lawyer, lawyer, expert in human rights and gender equality; Ana Guezmes, doctor specialising in community health, director of the Division of Gender Affairs of ECLAC, and Francisco Cos-Montiel, doctor in Gender Studies. Moderated by Irune Aguirrezabal, PhD in interdisciplinary gender studies. As has already been mentioned in these dialogues, women’s citizenship does not only have a political dimension. It is not enough for women to have a voice, nor is the ownership of rights enough; women need all subjective rights, including economic, social and cultural rights, as well as the opportunities and conditions for the exercise of these rights to be effective. In other words, women’s full citizenship requires addressing how social citizenship is achieved. It is therefore of interest to debate what public policies and social services need to be developed by the State, at all territorial levels and powers, with the cooperation of the private sector, to put an end to the structural inequality suffered by girls and women. In addition to redistributive policies, which are necessary, it is imperative to promote sustainable development with, by and for women and men in parity in all dimensions.
