In collaboration with the Instituto Cultural Rumano of Madrid, on Friday 9 July, at 8 p.m., at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Orquesta Sinfónica RTVE is holding a tribute concert to the great Romanian maestro Sergiu Celibidache, who conducted this orchestra on numerous occasions.

This commemorative concert on the 25th anniversary of his death will be conducted by three maestros who were Celibidache’s disciples: Antoni Ros-Marbà, Mark Mast and Enrique García Asensio. The concert programme includes three works. The first is Meditación al Viernes Santo Santo (for strings), composed by Antoni Ros-Marbà from Barcelona and dedicated to Celibidache. The second piece is an orchestral suite composed by Sergiu Celibidache entitled Der Taschengarten (The Pocket Garden), which is being performed for the first time in Spain at this concert. The third work in the concert is a piece by the recently deceased composer from Teruel, Antón García Abril, entitled Celibidachiana, commissioned by the Orquesta Nacional de España in 1982 and dedicated, as its name indicates, to Sergio Celibidache.
