The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Government have reminded that fans wishing to attend the semi-finals of the European Football Championship will only be allowed into Wembley Stadium to watch the Spain-Italy match after having kept a mandatory ten-day quarantine in London.
In the travel recommendations published yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is recalled that “the British authorities have informed the countries participating in Euro 2020-2021 that the mobility restrictions adopted in the United Kingdom due to COVID will be applied rigorously and without exceptions”.
Therefore, the Ministry continues, “only those who have complied with quarantine measures (a minimum of ten days) or excepted quarantine (test-to-release, with testing on days two and eight after entry) will be allowed to attend the stadium.” “Being in possession of a ticket for a Euro match will in no case exempt you from complying with the rule,” it continues.
“These measures assume that you have traveled to the UK 11 days prior to the date of the match” and therefore “if you have not been able to comply with the quarantine measures imposed, do not travel: you will be refused entry to this country if you intend to attend a soccer match taking place before the end of the relevant quarantine. No exceptions will be made,” it concludes.
On the other hand, the British Government warned yesterday, through the Embassy in Madrid, that “only those who have a ticket and are not coming from a country in red on our international travel traffic light system will be able to travel to the UK to watch the UEFA EURO 2020 semi-finals at Wembley.” “Those fans coming from an amber country would need to have arrived in the UK ten days before the match and have completed the ten-day quarantine,” it continued.
Coinciding with the publication of the recommendations on the Euro semi-finals, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced yesterday that, as of July 19, British citizens with a full vaccination schedule will be able to travel to countries with moderate levels of contagion without the need for quarantine on their return. These measures, which contradict scientists’ warnings, coincide with a general lifting of restrictions within the country itself.
