French government spokesman Gabriel Attal yesterday linked the epidemic upsurge in Spain and Portugal to the earlier opening of borders in those two countries, particularly with the UK where there is an explosion of cases due to the delta variant, reports Efe.
Spain and Portugal “are countries that had relaxed the rules at the borders, particularly with the UK, much earlier than us”, Attal said in an interview with France Inter, before noting that his government had been reproached for this.
