The Diplomat
The Council Foundations that Spain maintains with several Latin American countries to promote bilateral political, economic and cultural relations were reactivated in June, following the arrival of a new secretary general, Carlos Abella y Arístegui, who fills the vacancy left by Jaime Lacadena, who was appointed Spanish consul in Miami.
Carlos Abella was appointed Ambassador-at-Large for the Ibero-American Summits and Ibero-American Spaces in January, after having been at the helm for more than three years as ambassador to Ecuador.
The ambassador for Ibero-American Summits combines his position with that of secretary general of the Council Foundations of Spain with Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, some of which have recently held their annual board meetings, thus reactivating their activities, which were somewhat limited by the COVID-19 pandemic.
