The Secretary of State for the European Union, Juan González-Barba, and the German Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Michael Roth, agreed yesterday that the tourist season in the Balearic Islands will be a success and were convinced that German tourists will play a key role.
The two heads of European affairs held a meeting yesterday in Palma de Mallorca, which focused on the Balearic situation and the tourist campaign “which begins with the best guarantees of success and for which German tourists will play a key role, as Germany is traditionally the first country of origin of travellers to the Balearic Islands”, according to a note issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The note adds that both officials guaranteed tourism on the islands, thanking the collaboration between the different administrations, both European and national, and “Balearic society itself over the last few months”.
They also referred to the European Union’s Digital Certificate as an element for recovering mobility together with “the results of European solidarity”, once “the foundations have been laid” for the vaccination campaign and the Recovery Plans.
In addition, on health measures for tourism, the portfolio headed by Arancha González Laya has announced “the reinforcement of security”, so that it has demanded “complete vaccination guidelines” or “negative PCR” for British tourists.
Among other issues, González-Barba and Roth also discussed the state of negotiations on the European Migration and Asylum Pact, the situation of the Southern Neighbourhood, the ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, relations with the United Kingdom and the Conference on the Future of Europe. Along these lines, they highlighted the “dynamism” of the bilateral relationship between the two countries and the Balearic Islands, both politically and economically.
