The Fundación Consejo España-Japón, Spain’s leading public diplomacy institution dedicated to Japan, presents the digital event Robots and Employment: EU and Japan Perspectives on 7 July at 9.30 a.m.

The labour market is undergoing a global paradigm shift. Robots, driven by algorithms with increasing complexity, are taking on more and more jobs that were previously performed by humans. According to a report by the consulting firm McKinsey, up to 800 million jobs globally could be affected by this trend by 2030. The same report puts the percentage of current jobs that are technically automatable at 50%. This digital meeting will compare how the European Union and Japan are responding to this new context and review their starting assumptions and approaches to this dilemma. It will analyse their commonalities, but also their differences. In short, an attempt will be made to anticipate the place of human beings in the labour market of the future. Participants include Carmen Tirado (in the photo), Director of the Department of Public Law at the University of Zaragoza; Antonio Cabrales, expert in behavioural economics. D. in Economics from UCSD and professor at the Carlos III University, and Cecilia Pérez, partner lawyer at Garrigues. The event will be moderated by Marta del Amo, science and technology journalist.
