The diplomat Elena Gómez Castro was appointed yesterday by the Council of Ministers as Spain’s new ambassador representative to the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union (COPS), as reported by The Diplomat.
Elena Gómez Castro had been director general of Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence since 2017, a post to which General Fernando José López del Pozo has been appointed, also by the Council of Ministers.
The new ambassador to the PSC has extensive experience in security and defence matters and, among other positions, she has held the post of deputy permanent representative to the Atlantic Alliance, as well as deputy director general for security in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
