Casa América pays tribute to Bossa Nova with ‘The Song of Ipanema’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

This evening at 7.30 p.m. Casa América presents the tribute concert La Canción de Ipanema (The Song of Ipanema), which opens in Madrid on July 1st at the Teatro Fígaro, to Vinicius de Moraes and Antonio Carlos Jobim, two artists whose creations consolidated Bossa Nova as one of the most popular genres in the world.

The concert, which will feature the great Brazilian and Spanish musicians who make up the successful musical, will be introduced with a brief presentation by José Luís Sánchez. The Song of Ipanema tells the story of the creation of the emblematic song The Girl from Ipanema, the impossible love between Vinicius de Moraes and a girl 30 years his junior and how, with Antonio Carlos Jobim, they composed one of the most important Bossa Nova songs from the summer of 1962 to mid-1963, when this musical genre became a worldwide phenomenon. The musical reveals how the most emblematic Brazilian songs were composed and who really was the muse that inspired Vinicius, a young unknown girl who for love was capable of confronting the prejudices of an entire society at a time when women had hardly any rights.
