Until 31 July, coinciding in time with other activities of Madrid Pride 2021, Casa América presents in its Guayasamín Gallery the exhibition CORA (JE) Does the world change if I change gender?
“When I grow up I want to be a girl”. These are the words that Cora said to her mother at the age of five, when she was not yet recognised as Cora. The exhibition tells in images the world of Cora’s trans childhood from the point of view of the Argentinean photojournalist Gabo Caruso, who after visiting Cora in Barcelona came up with this long-term, positive and intimate project that shows a childhood that is not very visible and reflects values such as autonomy, friendship, inclusion and responsible love. The exhibition begins with Cora’s birth and follows her transition to the present day. At only 10 years old, Cora makes us participants in her life process through her family, her school and her friends, these being the three pillars that have historically marked the exclusion of many trans experiences. The girl’s personal universe, her growth and her struggle are the basis of this exhibition organised by Casa de América in collaboration with Transexualia, the Spanish Association of Transsexuals.
