The Centro de Documentación Circo Méliès, the Instituto Polaco de Cultura and 21 Districts are organising the exhibition The Colours of the Circus: The Polish School of the Poster, which can be seen from today until 4 July in the Auditorio Paco de Lucía (Avda. Las Águilas, 2ª). Free admission.
During the golden age of Polish poster art, i.e. from the end of World War II until well into the 1970s, the most recognised and acclaimed motif was undoubtedly the circus. For a quarter of a century, circus posters met with an unquestionable level of artistic quality, as well as the favour and applause of the public. The collection is an explosive mixture of the talent of the different artists and the colour and power of the motif: the circus. A rich and suggestive imaginary, not devoid of clichés and preconceived images, but which in the hands of these Polish artists becomes fireworks full of colour and imagination.
