The Diplomat
The Polisario Front yesterday praised the support for the Saharawi cause and the referendum of self-determination in Western Sahara which it receives from Unidas Podemos.
During the Citizens’ Assembly of Podemos held in Alcorcón (Madrid), the delegate of the Polisario Front in Spain, Abdulah Arabi, affirmed that he participated in the meeting to talk about “justice and international law, peace and international legality”, and underlined the “political and legal responsibility” of Spain with the Saharawi people as long as “the process of colonisation does not end with the referendum of self-determination”, reports Europa Press.
Arabi thanked Podemos for its position since its appearance, which, he said, has been based on “defence and coherence” with international law. “We encourage you more than ever to continue with your commitment to the Saharawi people”, he stressed.
The praise for the backing of Unidas Podemos, a partner in Pedro Sánchez’s government, comes at a time when the diplomatic crisis between Spain and Morocco is still raging, after the Spanish authorities agreed to take in the Polisario leader Brahim Ghali, who is ill with COVID-19, to a hospital in Logroño “for humanitarian reasons”. Rabat responded by recalling its ambassador to Madrid for consultations and allowing thousands of migrants to enter Ceuta.
