The Spanish Embassy in Belgium inaugurated yesterday in Brussels, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, the photographic and audiovisual exhibition by the Riojan artist Rober Astorgano: Towards the Promised Land, a dignifying look at the migratory crises since 2015.
Astorgano’s work shows the harshness of the reality of migration and the great global refugee crisis since 2015 through photography and documentary film. The exhibition shows two projects, which function as one: one part dedicated to migration to Europe and the other to America. On the one hand, it reveals the migration to Europe from countries in the Middle East, Near East and Africa, which is strongly marked by the crises and armed conflicts in the countries of origin and, especially, by the refugee crisis of 2015. On the other hand, in the Americas, the migration from Central American countries to the United States is specifically shown, especially with the documentary Las Patronas, which includes several interviews with migrants who, during their journey to the US, stay in Mexico, in the “Las Patronas” shelter. The 20-minute documentary has won several international awards and recognitions.
