The Diplomat
The Council of Ministers approved this past Tuesday the agreement amending the Air Transport Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Spain and the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, as well as its provisional application.
The Air Transport Agreement between Spain and Costa Rica was signed in San José on November 16, 1979 and entered into force on September 26, 1981. In application of its Article 15, which provides for the possibility of introducing amendments by means of an exchange of diplomatic notes, the two parties have agreed to incorporate into the agreement a number of standard Community clauses in order to allow air carriers from European Economic Area countries to access the operation of services between Spain and Costa Rica, making such possibility subject to the establishment of these carriers in Spanish territory.
Likewise, with respect to the designation of companies, there is a change from a single designation regime to a multiple designation system, whereby each party has the right to designate the number of air carriers it wishes, in order to operate the agreed air services on the specified routes. It is also provided that each party reserves the right to withdraw or revoke the operating authorization or technical permissions of an air carrier designated by the other contracting party, always after consultation with the other party. Finally, it is noted that this agreement is expected to be signed on the occasion of the trip that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will make today to Costa Rica.
