The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the United States, Joe Biden, will hold their first meeting when their respective agendas “make it possible”.

Sánchez “will hold a meeting with his U.S. counterpart when their respective agendas make it possible, which will undoubtedly be facilitated with the foreseeable improvements in mobility”, the Government assured in a parliamentary response in the Senate, reported by the Europa Press agency.

In principle, the “respective agendas” should allow a first meeting during the next NATO summit, which will be held next Monday in Brussels and in which Sánchez will have the opportunity, at least, to greet Joe Biden in a hallway. According to the agenda published last week by the White House, Biden will meet in Brussels with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan; with King Philippe of Belgium and with the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo. There are no other bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

Likewise, the Government recalled in its response, dated June 3, that Pedro Sánchez was one of the 40 international leaders that Biden invited to the Summit on Climate Change on April 22. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thus responded to a parliamentary question from the PP, dated April 29, on whether “it is possible to foresee the celebration in the coming months of a meeting between President Biden and the President of the Government”.
