Spain has begun issuing the European Union (EU) Covid Digital Certificate to all resident citizens who request it, the Ministry of Health said in a statement yesterday.
The certificate will become compulsory from 1 July, which means that Spain is more than 20 days ahead of the date set by the European authorities. The Ministry of Health stressed that this has been possible thanks to the “effort” and “joint work” of the department and the autonomous communities.
The issuing of these digital documents will be done “progressively” and during the month of June will be in a trial period. At the moment there are only seven countries that have the certificate.
According to the Ministry, which is headed by Carolina Darias, this week most of the autonomous communities will begin to issue partial digital certificates to accredit some of the conditions, such as having been vaccinated or having overcome the disease.
