Author: Jorge Arteaga Gómez.

In this novel, Conjura en la Sevilla Imperial (Plot in Imperial Seville), winner of the 24th University of Seville Novel Prize, history professor Jorge Arteaga Gómez narrates an audacious plot of historical intrigue about an attempt on King Charles V’s life. In a tone aimed at all ages, it combines real and fictitious characters, and offers a tight context of true historicity, especially in the reflection of daily life in 16th century Seville.

Seville, the centre of the entire known world since the arrival of the Indies, has also become, since 1526, the imperial capital. It was chosen as the venue to consecrate the marriage of the most powerful person in the world at that time, Emperor Charles V, to one of the most beautiful women on the planet, his cousin Isabella of Portugal. During the days that the Court remains in the city of Seville, in the midst of confusion and an influx of people never seen before, a boy, who survives in the underworld, fortuitously discovers a conspiracy that could change the happy sign of those days. With his determination and ingenuity as his only weapons, this boy will try to avoid this disaster. An encounter with a great man of the time, Hernando Colón, could be decisive in his brave and risky endeavour.
