The new Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Spain, Ramiz Hasanov, yesterday handed over his Copies of Letters of Credence to the Second Introducer of Ambassadors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, María Sebastián de Erice.
Ramiz Hasanov, former Deputy Foreign Minister, was appointed Ambassador last April by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He replaces Anar Maharramov, who represented his country in Madrid since September 2016.
Born in Georgia in 1961, he studied at the Institute of International Relations in Moscow (between 1978 and 1983) and worked at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Soviet Union from graduation until 1990. Between 1990 and 1992 he served in the Foreign Economic Relations Commission of the Government of Azerbaijan, between 1993 and 1997 he worked in the Ministry of Economy and between 1997 and 2004 he was the first vice-president of the state enterprise Azərkontrakt .
Hasanov was ambassador to Georgia between 2004 and 2005. Between 2005 and 2008 he served as head of the Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and between 2008 and 2018 he was chairman of the same body. In 2018 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position from which he was removed last April 19 to assume the Embassy in Madrid. Married with two children, the new ambassador is fluent in English, Russian, Turkish and Georgian.
