The Diplomat
Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso has decided to send Pascual del Cioppo, who was president of the Partido Social Cristiano (PSC) until just a few days ago, as ambassador to Spain.
Del Cioppo resigned last Thursday as president of the PSC, a post he had held for the past 22 years, after it became known that the new president of Ecuador intended to send him to head the embassy in Madrid.
Apparently, Lasso decided to keep his bet on Del Cioppo, despite the break-up of his party’s alliance -CREO- with the PSC, which took place a few weeks ago.
In fact, Del Cioppo was present at Lasso’s meeting with His Majesty the King, who had travelled to Quito for the inauguration of the new Ecuadorian president. At that meeting, Lasso reportedly presented Del Cioppo as his future ambassador to Spain.
Pascual del Cioppo, who is awaiting approval from the Spanish authorities, will replace Cristóbal Roldán, who had been appointed to the post by the previous president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, in September 2017.
