The Diplomat
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Industry and Energy, Josep Piqué, has been appointed by South Korea as honorary ambassador with the mission of promoting Spanish and Portuguese investments in that country.
Pique received his accreditation as honorary ambassador of foreign investment of the Republic of Korea from the Ambassador of that country in Madrid, Bahk Sahnghoon and the Director General of KOTRA, the Commercial Office of the Korean Government in Spain, YoungJu Ahn.
Josep Piqué is the first executive to occupy this position in Spain, which he will hold for a period of two years, in order to promote the attraction of investment from Spain and Portugal to the Republic of Korea, with whose companies and institutions he has maintained links throughout his professional career.
Piqué said on receiving the appointment: “It is an honour to represent a country that I admire for its technological development, competitiveness and level of education, so I will work to develop trade, economic and investment relations between Korea and Spain.
The ambassador highlighted Piqué’s international experience as Minister of Industry, Energy and Foreign Affairs, as well as his “exemplary professional career”, and assured that “he will be a great support in promoting trade and investment relations between the two countries”.
