With the collaboration of the School of Economic Intelligence and International Relations of the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Embassy of Nicaragua celebrated the 126th anniversary of the birth of the General of Free Men and Women, Augusto C. Sandino.

The event was opened by Ángel Rodríguez, Director of the School and Professor of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis, who welcomed the attendees, among whom were diplomats from Guatemala, Bolivia, Honduras, Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and political friends of Nicaragua.

Next, the Nicaraguan Ambassador, Carlos Midence, spoke about General Sandino: The great Nicaraguan patriot, highlighting his figure and his influence not only in his country, but also in many countries and revolutions around the world, through a model that promotes Peace, Coexistence and the Common Good. Carlos Midence also gave an overview of the great achievements in social, health and structural aspects that Nicaragua has transformed in recent years.

Afterwards, the writer, editor, essayist and anti-imperialist Ramón Pedregal, presented the conference: Sandino and the National Dignity of Nicaragua, accompanied by images of present-day Nicaragua. The essayist highlighted the significance of Sandino, as well as for the struggles of the peoples of ‘Nuestramérica’, both in his time and today. Values and principles such as anti-imperialism, nationalism and sovereignty were highlighted by the speaker in relation to Sandinista thought. The homage was closed by the singer-songwriter Juanjo Anaya, who dedicated several revolutionary songs to General Sandino.
