The annual cultural week organised by the European University of Madrid (UEM), held in the last days of April, counted with the participation of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in which the ambassador, Majid Al Suwaidi, gave a lecture on the history and culture of the United Arab Emirates to students of political science, diplomacy and media, with the participation of a group of university professors.
Manuel López Antón, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, opened the conference by highlighting the role played by the UAE both regionally and globally, as it has been able to demonstrate its leadership in many fields such as the empowerment of women and youth, sustainability and environmental conservation, in addition to its regional and international political role, and its efforts in spreading the culture of tolerance and other areas in which it has confirmed its vanguard, which has led many of those interested in Arab culture to learn more about the UAE, its culture and its arts.
During his speech, Emirati Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi presented the history of the founding of the UAE and its transformation into a regional power, in addition to its progress on many global indicators.
Al Suwaidi highlighted the cultural diversity in the UAE, where more than 200 nationalities live together in peace and harmony. The ambassador also discussed his country’s transformation into a regional hub for the arts in the Middle East and the success it has achieved in attracting many international content creators, artists and filmmakers, which has paved the way for the introduction of Emirati art internationally.
Majid Al Suwaidi concluded his lecture by talking about Dubai Expo 2020, whose theme is: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. The ambassador highlighted the artistic value of the Spanish pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020, a mega event that will be a global artistic and cultural forum where more than 192 countries will meet with the aim of discovering new horizons of cooperation, celebrating multiculturalism, architectural and heritage diversity, and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
