The Diplomat
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has appointed Ramiz Hasanov, who was Azerbaijan’s deputy foreign minister, as the country’s new ambassador to Spain.
Although he was born in Georgia and studied at the Institute of International Relations in Moscow, his professional career has been spent in Azerbaijan, where he has worked mainly on international economic relations issues and has been chairman of the Committee for Standardisation, Metrology and Patents. He was also Ambassador to Georgia from 2004 to 2005.
Ramiz Hasanov replaces Anar Maharramov, who has been ambassador in Madrid since September 2016.
