The new Ambassador of Bulgaria to Spain, Aleksey Andreev, handed over on Thursday his Copies of Letters of Credence to the Introducer of Ambassadors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caridad Batalla.
Aleksey Andreev replaces at the head of the Embassy of Bulgaria Ivan Kondov, who represented his country in Spain between 2017 and 2021 and was recently appointed to the post of permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sofia.
Andreev held until now the position of director for foreign policy planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, he was posted at the Embassies in Portugal (as third secretary, between 1999 and 2002) and the United Kingdom (as first political secretary, between 2006 and 2009) and was a counselor at the Directorate for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2012), “number two” at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the United Nations agencies in Geneva (2012-2016) and director at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy (2017-2019).
The new ambassador in Madrid – a graduate in International Relations from the University of Brasilia (1990-1994) and Master in European Studies from St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia (1996-1997) – completed a Master in International Studies at the Complutense University and a course in International Studies at the Spanish Diplomatic School, both between 1997 and 1998, so he knows our country well.
