Until April 25th the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid presents Benamor, an operetta in three acts composed by the maestro Pablo Luna, with libretto by Antonio Paso and Ricardo González del Toro in a version by Enrique Viana.
Considered Pablo Luna’s greatest musical success throughout his career, this operetta was first performed at the end of 1923 in this same theatre. Many consider it to be the best of his scores, supported by a curious and amusing libretto. According to its stage director, Enrique Viana, “to approach Benamor has been a pleasure, and that the Teatro de la Zarzuela decided to stage it again (it had not been performed in this theatre since its premiere), a dream. A happy dream that is the best medicine for the nightmarish times we are living through. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
