The authors of the book The Memory Work of Jewish Spain, Daniela Fresler and Adrián Pérez Melgosa (professors at Stony Brook University), will present their work tomorrow Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Centro Sefarad-Israel.
In The Memory Work of Jewish Spain, the authors examine the implications of recovering this memory through an analysis of a wide range of emerging cultural practices, political initiatives and institutions in the context of Spain’s long history of ambivalence towards its Jewish past. Through interviews, analyses of museums, newly reconfigured “juderías”, excavated Jewish sites, popular festivals, tourist brochures, literature and art, the book explores what happens when these initiatives are implemented at the local level in cities and towns across Spain and how they affect the country’s present. The presentation can be followed on Centro Sefarad-Israel’s YouTube channel at this link.
