The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, has had to suspend her scheduled events for this week, after one of the people who accompanied her on her trip to Kuwait and Iraq tested positive for coronavirus last Saturday on arrival in the Kuwaiti capital.
The minister’s entourage was forced to return to Spain on Sunday and, after their arrival in Madrid, yesterday González Laya remained working at her residence in the Palacio de Viana, without going to her office in the Palacio de Santa Cruz. Ministry sources indicated that, for reasons of prudence, it has been decided to suspend the minister’s presence at the events she had planned to attend face-to-face.
This includes, in principle, this Tuesday’s Council of Ministers and also one of her most important appointments this week: her appearance before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies, scheduled for Friday.
The Ministry has contacted the Commission and, in principle, it has been agreed to move the appearance to Thursday 22nd.
That same Friday, González Laya was scheduled to meet with the new director of the European Commission Representation in Madrid, María Ángeles Benítez Salas, and with the director of the Toledo International Centre for Peace, Josep Piqué. Both meetings have been postponed.
González Laya will keep the telematic appointments that were on his agenda, including his participation on Thursday in the meeting of foreign ministers in preparation for the Ibero-American Summit in Andorra on 21 April.
