The Diplomat
Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya has bought a flat in Madrid, The Diplomat has been told.
The flat is apparently located in one of the best areas of the central Chamberí neighbourhood, and the minister’s intention is to be able to have accommodation in Madrid, although she will continue to live regularly in the Palacio de Viana, where she has been living for decades.
When she is not on one of her frequent business trips, González Laya occupies the Palacio de Viana and her intention, according to the same sources, is to have more personal accommodation, especially for weekends when there is no activity at the Ministry.
Until her appointment as minister at the beginning of 2020, Arancha González Laya had spent most of her professional career outside Spain, mainly in Brussels and Geneva, and did not have a residence in Madrid. When she was in Spain, her time was usually divided between her family residence in Tolosa (Guipuzcoa), her hometown, and the town of Navaleno in Soria, where her family spent the summer, and where she bought a house.
Recently, the Government released the declaration of assets of its members, and in it, it was indicated that Arancha González Laya, has properties worth 79,957.54 euros, and deposits worth 790,858.49 euros, which gives her a net worth of 870,816.03 euros, without liabilities.
