The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has launched a Humanitarian Early Recovery Fund to finance early recovery actions following a declaration of humanitarian emergency.
The new fund, endowed with ten million euros for 2021, will promote Early Recovery interventions to respond to immediate needs beyond the assistance actions developed in the first moments of the emergency, as reported by the agency this past Friday. Therefore, this new instrument will allow “to continue the attention to humanitarian crises beyond the assistance to the populations affected by emergencies or crises”, since it will implement “the first actions to help these communities to recover their lives as soon as possible”, said the AECID.
The fund envisages the implementation of initiatives in the first six months after the end of the emergency phase of the crisis, “in which the provision of basic necessities such as food and shelter, or the provision of drinking water and sanitation are essential to prevent the consequences for the affected population from worsening”, it continued. “Spain will thus contribute to reducing the consequences of the effects caused by disasters and armed conflicts and help stabilize the situation so that people and communities can continue with their lives as soon as possible and without compromising their future development prospects”, it added.
According to the Agency, the fund “strengthens the implementation of the triple nexus in Spanish cooperation, promoting initiatives that respond to various objectives simultaneously,” since, on the one hand, it will make it possible to meet the immediate needs of the population (reconstruction, consumption, recovery of their livelihoods, etc.), and, on the other hand, it will help meet the immediate needs of the population (reconstruction, consumption, recovery of their livelihoods, etc.), on the other hand, it will contribute to a medium and long term development strategy and, finally, in contexts of crisis and conflict, to establish conditions to build peace.
