The Business Council Alliance for Ibero-America (CEAPI) will hold the fourth edition of its biennial Congress on 17 and 18 May in Madrid under the title ‘Transformation and social impact: the best companies for the planet’.

This year’s major event will bring together presidents of leading companies and business families from Latin America, who will discuss the social role of business as a participant in the new welfare state, according to a note from CEAPI, which stresses that “entrepreneurs are agents of positive change and an essential part in the economic reconstruction after the health crisis of covid-19”.

The note adds that during these two days, ideas and proposals will be exchanged in order to advance a new roadmap that will be marked by sustainability.

The CaixaForum Madrid building will host the meeting, which will have a mixed format, as it will be attended in person by a limited number of business leaders, and with the virtual participation of many of the most influential businessmen in their sectors, involved in the changes that the region is undergoing, and committed to ensuring that this transformation has a positive social impact, the note indicates.

The president of CEAPI, Núria Vilanova, said that “the Congress aims to promote a new model of relationship between business and institutions, between public and private initiative, which accelerates the transition to a welfare economy based on sustainability”.

Vilanova added that the event aims to be a space for dialogue and encounter in which to share inspiring experiences, and explained: “The objective is to advance in the construction of a large community based on alliances, and to promote collaboration that promotes social transformation and that strengthens the figure of entrepreneurs as agents of positive change”.

The Congress will also analyse the financing needs and the new requirements of financial institutions and investment funds, which require companies to make a firm commitment to sustainability and the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Another of the issues to be addressed in the panels of the 4th CEAPI Congress will be how to achieve the broad public-private consensus demanded by citizens, the press release points out.

The Congress is based on plenary conferences and parallel working sessions. The panels will debate the major issues that will shape the future of business in the coming years. Among other issues, they will analyse the creation of value for people, who are more than ever the focus of companies; the new challenges in the health sector; renewable energies and sustainable infrastructures; responsible mining, the future of tourism, the challenges of entrepreneurship, progress in gender equality, race and diversity policies, and new consumer trends.

Some of the speakers who have already confirmed their attendance at the 4th CEAPI Congress are Mexican businessman Valentín Díez Morodo, international honorary president of CEAPI; Alejandro Bulgheroni, president of Pan American Energy; Brian Smith, president of The Coca-Cola Company; Juan Carlos Mora Uribe, president of Bancolombia; Eduardo Hochschild, Executive Chairman of Hochschild Mining Peru; Stanley Motta, Chairman of Motta International; Daniel Servitje, Chairman and CEO of Grupo Bimbo; Bernardo Vargas, Chairman of ISA; Gina Diez Barroso, President and CEO of Grupo Diarq; Antonio Amorim, Chairman of Grupo Amorim; and Joseph Oughourlian, Founder of Amber Capital.

Also participating will be Antonio Huertas, Chairman of Mapfre (Spain); Sergio Rodríguez, Chairman of Pfizer Spain; Leandro Sigman, CEO of Insud Pharma; Carlos Buesa, CEO of Oryzon; Sabina Fluxá, Chairman of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts; Javier Sánchez-Prieto, Chairman of Iberia; Juan Manuel Serrano, Chairman of Correos; Enrique Goñi, Deputy Chairman of Criteria Caixa; Beatriz Corredor, Chairman of Red Eléctrica de España; Manuel Contreras Caro, CEO of Grupo Azvi; Jaume Miquel, Chairman of Tendam, and Javier Targhetta, Chairman of Atlantic Cooper, among others.

The following have also announced their participation: Ana Botella, from Fundación Integra; Mireya Cisneros, founder of Unidos en Red; Bettina Bulgheroni, founder and president of Fundación Educando; Clara Arpa, president of Red Española del Pacto Mundial; Antonio Fernández-Galiano, president of Unidad Editorial; Juan Luis Cebrián, honorary president of El País; Cynthia Hudson, vice-president and general director of CNN Español (USA); César Cernuda, president of NetApp, and Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.

This great business event will also be attended by Gema Sacristán, General Business Director of BID Invest; Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of SEGIB, and Begoña Gómez, Director of the Chair of TSC of the Complutense University. The three entities are collaborators of this IV Congress, organised by CEAPI.

Business leaders will share experiences, cases and transformative ideas. Many of these proposals will take shape in the Business Roundtables. These thematic executive meetings are held behind closed doors, with the utmost confidentiality, with the aim of promoting mutual knowledge, boosting synergies and opening up new business opportunities.
