The Diplomat
Thailand’s new Ambassador to Spain, Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, presented Copies of Letters of Credence yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before the Ambassadors’ Introducer, Caridad Batalla.
Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit was until now her country’s Ambassador to Turkey and will take over as Head of Mission in Madrid, which had been vacant since the death in August 2019 of the previous Ambassador, Krerkpan Roekchamnong, who had taken up his post only a couple of months earlier. The embassy was currently headed by a Chargé d’Affaires.
In a message published on the website of the Thai Embassy on the occasion of his incorporation, Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit expresses his desire to strengthen the “cordial” relations between Spain and his country, “not only at the governmental and business level, but also at the citizen level”.
She then recalled that Madrid and Bangkok established diplomatic relations in 1870, so that in 2020 the 150th anniversary of that event was celebrated and activities were developed in both Thailand and Spain, covering multiple dimensions, including political, touristic and cultural “to promote a better understanding between the peoples of both sides in terms of the strong and dynamic relations and cooperation between the two countries”.
The Ambassador thanked those who assisted in the implementation of these activities for their efforts in carrying them out in the circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
She also expresses her confidence that relations between Spain and Thailand in 2021 and beyond, as the countries begin their post-COVID recovery, “will have more dynamism and opportunities in all areas, both at the bilateral Thailand-Spain level, and at the Thailand-European Union level”.
“As Thailand’s ambassador to Spain, I will do my best to consolidate cooperation between the two countries by overcoming the challenges of COVID-19 and achieving a more prosperous future and a closer friendship between the Thai and Spanish people,” she said.
He concluded: “I also sincerely hope for more support from Spanish friends and the network of Thai friends in Spain.
