Spanish consulates abroad attended to a total of 260 women victims of gender violence in 63 countries in 2020, according to the Government.

In a parliamentary response to a question from EH Bildu MP Jon Iñarritu, he explains that this work is carried out under the mandate of the Foreign Action Strategy 2021-2024, which includes consular assistance and protection for Spanish citizens abroad who are in a particularly vulnerable situation for personal or circumstantial reasons, such as victims of gender-based violence.

In the Government document, collected by Europa Press, and for “reasons of personal data protection”, information is only provided for those countries in which more than 10 cases of gender-based violence were registered and in which the Spanish population exceeds 700 registered nationals.

Thus, it is determined that 43 victims of this scourge were attended to in the United Kingdom, ahead of France (28), Mexico (19), Romania (14), Germany (11) and the United States (10).

The countries of origin of the repatriated Spanish victims were: Albania, Germany, Argentina, Canada, United States, France, Guinea, Italy, Lithuania, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
