Spain’s Secretary of State for Trade and president of ICEX, Xiana Méndez, inaugurated last Wednesday the Spain-US Business Meeting, organized by ICEX Spain Export and Investment to facilitate the collaboration of Spanish companies with potential partners in the United States.
The meeting, held in virtual format in collaboration with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the CEOE and which concluded on Thursday, aimed to “promote a climate of collaboration between Spanish companies with internationalization projects in the U.S. in three sectors, water, energy and smart cities”, according to ICEX. In total, 25 previously selected companies held meetings throughout the week with potential local partners in the market, an agenda that has been prepared by ICEX.
During her speech, the Secretary of State for Trade recalled “the recent mutual suspension of tariffs between the EU and the United States arising from the Airbus-Boeing trade dispute”, which is “a big step towards reaching a negotiated solution to end this dispute and that exports to the United States of affected Spanish products begin to recover”.
“Spain and the United States share a strong trade and investment relationship”, she continued. “There are more than 650 Spanish companies operating in the United States that generate more than 110,000 jobs”, she added. “In addition, we share common commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the creation of more sustainable cities. Spanish companies have a lot to offer in this field to U.S. institutions and markets thanks to their extensive experience, cutting-edge technologies and the reliability of having a trusted partner”.
