The Spanish government yesterday condemned “in the strongest terms, the violence perpetrated by the security forces against the civilian population in Myanmar“.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish government said that “the execution of unarmed civilians, including children, by the police and military is intolerable and unjustifiable”. And it stresses that “while celebrating its Armed Forces Day, the Myanmar Army has become the enemy of the population it was intended to defend”.
“Spain will spare no effort to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable before the law.
Finally, the government conveys its sincere condolences to the families of those who have died since 1 February, and reiterates its call for the release of the detainees and the immediate cessation of violence.
