The historic Hotel Ritz in Madrid will reopen its doors on 15 April, once the renovation work that has lasted more than three years has been completed, according to the company.

The establishment will henceforth bear the name Mandarin Oriental Ritz, since the Mandarin Oriental International chain acquired the hotel in 2015 for 130 million euros and, years later, in February 2018, undertook the renovation work.

The renovation works, the most important undertaken by the hotel since its foundation in 1910, had a budget of 99 million euros, as announced at the time by the new owner.

With the renovations, the hotel will open with 153 rooms decorated by French designers Gilles et Boissier, including 53 suites in five categories. Among the features detailed on the Ritz website are a treatment room, a steam room, “sensation” showers, an indoor pool and a vitality pool.

In addition, there will be five gastronomic spaces created and directed by the three Michelin-starred Quique Dacosta. Specifically, there will be three restaurants – Deessa; Palm Court, under the recovered glass dome, and El Jardín del Ritz – and two bars, Pictura and Champagne Bar.

Located in the central Plaza de la Lealtad, just a few metres from the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemistza Museums, the Retiro and the Congress of Deputies, the Ritz has been, since it was inaugurated by King Alfonso XII, witness to great events in the history of Spain. Many heads of government and foreign ministers stay there during their visits to our country, as well as a good number of artists, writers and other personalities.
