The Vice-President of the Government and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with Parliament and Democratic Memory, Carmen Calvo, yesterday assured that Spain “will be at the forefront” of Europe’s commitment to the fight against discrimination and racism, “thanks to the legislation that is being processed”.
During her participation by videoconference in the European Summit against Racism, she acknowledged that “we still have a lot of work to do to ensure that no act of racism takes place”.
The Vice-President pointed out that the Government is taking steps through the Spanish Parliament “to soon have legislation that protects us against all kinds of discrimination, to transpose anti-discrimination law into Spanish law”.
“Article 14 of the Constitution obliges us not only to fight against discrimination, but also to remove the obstacles in a society that, on many occasions, allows itself to be carried away by the inertia of discriminating against those who are different,” she added.
