Gibraltar has now completed the vaccination of its entire adult population against COVID-19, UK Health Minister Matt Hancock announced in the House of Commons yesterday.
Hancock described the health campaign on the Rock as “brilliant” and applauded the “resilience” of the local population during the pandemic.
The chief minister, Fabian Picardo, thanked on his Twitter account the British health minister for mentioning the campaign to the parliamentarians in London, and also thanked the various institutions that have collaborated, especially the UK Ministry of Health.
According to the Gibraltarian government, almost 50,000 doses of the vaccine against the coronavirus have been administered, including some 20,100 that correspond to a second dose and which, therefore, implies the end of the immunisation schedule for all those who have received it.
The authorities in the Rock have so far confirmed 4,270 cases of COVID-19, of which only 25 are still active. Since the pandemic began, 94 people have lost their lives in Gibraltar as a result of the coronavirus.
