The Instituto Italiano of Cultura presents the exhibition ‘Ubi Consistam’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Italian Embassy in Spain and the Instituto Italiano of Cultura in Madrid present the exhibition Ubi Consistam, by the Italian artist Marina Sagona, following her period in Barcelona, at the Institute’s headquarters until 23 April.

The locution, which gives the exhibition its title, ubi consistam (literally “where I stand”) is commonly used with the meaning of a stable point of support, a safe starting point for undertaking a coherent and organic action or, in psychology, as an existential location and personal identity. It is precisely the theme of identity that runs through the work of the Italian artist who obtained US citizenship in 2017, after living in New York for 22 years; from that moment on, Sagona felt that her new identity emptied her of her previous one and was becoming blurred. The exhibition consists of 30 small-format sculptures, divided into two groups: the Organs series and the Five Senses series, 16 printed drawings entitled Passport and a video entitled Self Portrait. Free admission. Reservations must be made by writing to iicmadrid@esteri.it indicating the time of the visit, name and telephone number of all persons for whom the reservation is requested.
