The State Secretary for the European Union, Juan González-Barba, and the Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Elisabetta Belloni, held a videoconference meeting yesterday to launch the follow-up mechanism for the Spanish-Italian Bilateral Summit.
González-Barba and Belloni reviewed the commitments reached at the 19th summit between the two countries, held last November in Palma, and assessed the progress made.
This virtual meeting will be followed by a face-to-face meeting in Madrid, in which they will be accompanied by representatives of the most relevant ministerial departments in order to make progress on the Summit’s commitments, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The communiqué also states that González-Barba and Belloni also exchanged their perceptions on the evolution of the pandemic.
They also discussed EU matters such as the Southern Neighbourhood, the Conference on the Future of Europe, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Pact on Migration and Asylum. In this regard, both stressed the importance of Spain and Italy coordinating their positions in these dossiers.
