The Diplomat

The German Ambassador to Spain, Wolfgang Dold, presents in a video the messages that have reached the Embassy, sent by Germans from different regions, who say they are looking forward to returning to Spain.

The video is the result of the campaign that the diplomatic representation launched at the end of February on social networks with the hashtag #VOLVEREMOS (We will return) to encourage German citizens to send their testimonies about their desire to return to our country as soon as the pandemic allows it.

The Embassy has released the video to coincide with the opening of the ITB Tourism Fair in Berlin on Tuesday, and in it, Ambassador Dold points out that in the messages that have reached them, many of his compatriots say they miss being able to come to their favourite holiday destination, which is Spain.

Dold says that Germans like all the pieces to fit together and that “without Spain the puzzle is not complete”. And he concludes: “At the moment, no one can say how long we will have to wait. But one thing is clear: as soon as it is safe for everyone to travel again, we will be back.

To underline the ambassador’s words, the messages collected express the desire of German tourists to enjoy the weather in Spain, the sun on its coasts, to be able to go for a bike ride, to go for ‘pintxos’ in San Sebastian’s Old Town or to enjoy Madrid’s museums, among other things.

The Embassy adds that Madrid, Mallorca, San Sebastian, Extremadura, Cartagena, Picos de Europa, Malpica or La Garrotxa are just some of the destinations German tourists are keen to return to as soon as the coronavirus crisis allows safe travel again.

Germany has traditionally been Spain’s second largest outbound tourism market, behind only the United Kingdom.

ITB Now, the digital version of the tourism fair held annually in Berlin, will run until the 12th, including presentations and events aimed solely at tourism professionals.

Turespaña will participate in this edition presenting the main destinations, as well as Spanish tourism products and the different Product Clubs supported by the Secretary of State for Tourism.
