The Spanish government yesterday condemned the “repeated attacks” carried out by Yemen’s Huthi militia against several population centres in Saudi Arabia, stressing that they “put civilian lives at risk” and “threaten regional security”.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry says the attacks “violate the sovereignty of Saudi Arabia” and calls for “strict respect for humanitarian law” as well as “an immediate ceasefire” in the face of the intensification of the conflict, mainly in the province of Marib, and the increase in Huthi attacks on Saudi territory.
The foreign ministry says this could allow “the parties to the conflict in Yemen to agree on a political solution under the auspices of the UN that would put an end to fighting that has caused numerous casualties and a serious humanitarian crisis”.
Last Sunday, a drone launched by the rebels attacked the Ras Tanura oil facility and the Huthis later launched a ballistic missile at a neighbourhood where thousands of Aramco oil company employees live, according to Saudi Arabia, which said the attacks did not cause any damage to property or personal injury.
