This year, the Instituto Cervantes of the Netherlands dedicates the commemoration of International Women’s Day to Women and Music, with a very elaborate programme that has several ramifications.
The activities that make up the common programme are very different, from Polygnota de Tebas: yesterday muse, today composer, a series of five concerts broadcast live from the Auditorium of the Cervantes Institute in Utrecht, which aims to highlight the work of women composers who have been more or less silenced by history. A round table to discuss current issues of concern in the field of women and the world of music at 10 a.m., in the theatre of the OBA/Amsterdam, with the participation of seven speakers. More information on this link. At 11 a.m., seven musical performances that have been recorded in different cities especially for this occasion. The common link is that the protagonists of each performance are female performers and/or composers. More information here. And until 20 May on Youtube, the virtual exhibition entitled The March of the women, produced by EntArteOpera and coming from Vienna via the Austrian Embassy in The Hague, presents profiles of dozens of marginalised European women composers who worked between 1850 and 1980.
