The Embassy of Ireland invites historian Tim Fanning and writer Keith Payne to an online conversation on Tuesday 9 March at 5.30pm to discuss the former’s book The Salamanca Diaries: Father McCabe and the Spanish Civil War.

In the course of his work on Ireland’s links with Latin America and Spain, writer and historian Tim Fanning came across the diaries of Father McCabe, a native of Co Cavan who was rector of the Irish College in Salamanca. In this book, Fanning draws on McCabe’s diaries to provide a fascinating account of life in turbulent times and McCabe’s astute impressions of various Spanish and Irish figures he encountered. Tim Fanning is a writer and historian with a particular interest in Spain and Latin America. Keith Payne is a writer and recent collections include Broken Hill (Lapwing, 2015), Diary of Green Crosses (from Martín Veiga’s Galician, Francis Boutle, 2018), and The Desert and Second Language (from María do Cebreiro and Yolanda Castaño’s Galician, Shearsman 2019, 2020). The event can be followed at this link.
