The Diplomat
The diplomat Fernando Olivié González-Pumariega passed away yesterday at the age of 96, after having been ambassador of Spain to Paraguay, Colombia, Yugoslavia, Belgium and Poland, the latter country where he retired in 1990.
Fernando Olivié also held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among them those of director of the Philippines and the Far East, director of Western Europe and general director of Europe.
He was also the author of several books, such as “Canada, an American Monarchy” and “The Inheritance of a Broken Empire” and participated in other collective works. He was also an expert on Gibraltar, a dispute on which he wrote numerous articles and studies.
