The defence of the rights of the Russian LGTBI collective in the play ‘Siveria’

February 11, 2021
in Leisure, Theatre

Until 28 February, the Teatro Español presents the play Siveria, starring actors Sonia Almarcha, Adolfo Fernández and Marc Parejo.

Elena and Kristof are two activists who share a flat in a city in Putin’s Russia. From their flat, they dodge the government’s laws prohibiting homosexual propaganda by editing a website that supports young LGTBI people rejected by their own families. Everything seems to be working until the day when the secret police, who have tightened the siege, take Elena into custody and subject her to an interrogation in which a ruthless inspector will test her loyalty to the cause she has always fought for. Based on real events, Siveria recreates, in a free way, with the makings of the classic suspense genre, the days leading up to the arrest and interrogation of the Russian activist Yelena Klimova.
