The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Cristina Gallach, was received yesterday in Guinea Conakry by the country’s President, Alpha Condé, to whom she announced the donation by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) of 100,000 euros to help in the fight against Ebola.

Spain is thus responding to the appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to halt the advance of the Ebola virus and its consequences in the Republic of Guinea, where a new Ebola outbreak has been declared, in the same area of N’Zérékoré, where it emerged in 2014.

The Spanish contribution will be used, according to AECID, “to train volunteer personnel, trace contacts with affected people or raise awareness of the disease in communities and areas at risk.”

During her visit to Conakry, the State Secretary signed the agreement for the donation of aid against Ebola and also delivered a shipment of Spanish humanitarian material including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Gallach also handed over to the Guinean Ministry of the Interior material to curb illegal migration and visited a migrant transit Center.
