Lecture ‘Tunisia: the long road to transition’, at Casa Árabe

This afternoon at 6 p.m., Casa Árabe is offering a new session in the series of conferences The People Want… entitled Tunisia: The Long Road to Transition.

Tunisia is a clear example of a successful democratic transition in the Arab world. Although it faces a number of political and socio-economic challenges, the fact is that this North African country has managed to leave authoritarianism behind. The other side of the coin is a situation of profound governmental instability: disagreements between the president and the prime minister, as well as between the executive and the head of the legislature. Meanwhile, nationwide popular protests against the political class and the adverse socio-economic situation continue to take place on the streets. Speakers at the event include Farah Hached, jurist and founder of the ‘Democratic Laboratory’; Huda Mzioudet, freelance journalist and researcher; and Tarek Kahlaoui, political scientist, professor at the Mediterranean School of Business and researcher at Stractegia. Presented by Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s International Relations Coordinator, and moderated by Barah Mikaïl, director of Stractegia. The session can be viewed on Casa Árabe’s YouTube channel (in Spanish and French).
