The Diplomat
The Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, received yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Spain, Wolfgang Dold.
During the meeting, as reported by the Ministry of Justice, the minister and the ambassador discussed issues of mutual interest related to the field of justice and explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations. “Thank you very much for the warm welcome and for such an interesting meeting,” the German ambassador stated on his official Twitter account.
A court in Germany in 2018 dismissed a euro-warrant issued by Spain against former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont for the crimes of rebellion or sedition. To alleviate this type of situation, the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, has committed to reforming the Euro-warrant and the European Parliament’s Committee on Freedoms, Justice and Home Affairs approved, last December 3, a revision of the list of the 32 criminal categories for the automatic surrender of persons, in which he included, among others, “crimes against the constitutional integrity of the Member States committed through the use of violence”. The reform was ratified by the plenary session of the European Parliament on January 20, with the votes against of Unidas Podemos (current government partner) and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya.
