Andorra, as Pro Tempore Secretariat of the Ibero-American Conference, confirmed yesterday that it will host the XXVII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government on April 21, 2021.
The meeting, according to the Ibero-American General Secretariat, will be held in a semi-presential format, taking into account the preventive measures required by the health situation in the region.
The Summit should have been held in November last year, but the persistence of the COVID-19 pandemic made it advisable to postpone it until the spring of 2021, in the hope that health conditions would improve.
Now, although the crisis has not gone away, it has been decided to set April 21 as the date for a meeting, which will focus on innovation for sustainable development and post-COVID-19 recovery, with special emphasis on innovation in the health, social, economic and environmental aspects of recovery.
The meeting, which will bring together the Heads of State and Government of the 22 Ibero-American countries, will be preceded by the meeting of National Coordinators and Cooperation Officers of the Ibero-American Conference on April 13 and 14, and by the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs on April 15. Both meetings will be held telematically.
The XIII Ibero-American Business Meeting is also scheduled to be held in Andorra la Vella on April 19 and 20.
Andorra assumed the Pro Tempore Secretariat of the Ibero-American Summit in 2018 and during the following two years has led an extensive agenda of meetings of the Ibero-American Conference, preparatory to the Summit.
Twelve ministerial meetings have been held with the participation of the 22 Ibero-American countries, including meetings of ministers of Foreign Affairs, Environment, Culture, Labor and Social Security, Public Administration, Education, Science and Technology, and Tourism, as well as the Civic Forum and several business meetings.
