The conference, to be held on Tuesday 16 February at 9.30 a.m., will discuss the emergence of new pandemics in the context of biodiversity degradation and climate change, and will explain how the constant increase in contact between humans and nature, due to the intensification of agriculture and deforestation, is a major factor in these processes. Cecilia Cabello Valdés, director general of the FECYT; Jean-Michel Casa, French ambassador; Wolfgang Dold, German ambassador; Fernando Valladares, CSIC researcher and director of the “Ecology and Global Change” group at the National Museum of Natural Sciences; Simone Sommer, director of the Institute of Evolutionary Ecology and Genomic Conservation at the University of Ulm, and Serge Morand, research director, ecologist at the CNRS and CIRAD, will take part in the event.
